I enjoybreading your pieces. Sofas is indeed a major piece in a living room BUT conservation aspects you mention are valuable thoughts in this new era. I like and recommend!

thanks andrea for recommending my on line magazine. Any particular style, or type of furniture you are interested in knowing more about ? Im planning to write about armadi, letti, lighting, paraventi and floors in the next few montyhs. Ive already mentioned ceilings....

Such great info. When I was just getting settled in NYC, I bought an antique chaise with the intention of reupholstering myself. Wow, was that over my head. Horsehair everywhere. But we finally did hire someone and we still have it at the house in Marche. Wonderful post.

Best to leave restoring furniture to the experts... wait till you see the 1930s FRAU armchair I had restored recently - un'opera d'arte of upholstery .

I've actually sat on the high-backed sofa that Stalin had in Sochi!

And we had a casapanca when we were in Rome. We gave it away when we moved to our condo a few years ago.

how amazing that you and Fulvio shared the experience of sitting on Stalin’s sofa! Do you have a photo ? The dacha is a very interesting place… I heard that Putin has a private villa/dacha in the same area near Sochi… a favorite area for dictators…sort of a Mar a lago kind of place.
